At Felixstowe Lawn Tennis Club, Bath Road
Junior Week is an annual tournament sponsored by Jackamans Solicitors. It is a prestigious LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) run Grade 3 tournament, and its aim is to provide juniors of all ages the chance to play under tournament conditions. With a total of 32 events covering age ranges from under 8 years through to u18; it is a vibrant and exciting tournament.
This year the event ran from 14th to 20th August. It was a lively affair with 150 players taking part, (a considerable increase on previous years), and a very good number compared to other similar tournaments. With draws of 32 in many age groups, it was particularly encouraging to see how many youngsters participated in the Mini Red, Orange and Green events.
A new playing schedule was introduced this year which allowed individual aged events to be completed within two days. It had been appreciated that asking players and their families to come for a whole week was too big a commitment.
The weather was brilliant and the spectators and participants enjoyed light refreshments from the clubhouse. Tournaments at the club present a wonderful opportunity to see high quality competitive tennis in beautiful surroundings – and at no charge.
We are now looking forward to next year’s tournaments, including the next Jackamans’ Felixstowe Junior and Open Tournament which will be held from 21st to 26th August 2023, so make a diary note!
FLTC is an impressive club with 9 grass courts available during the summer season and 9 floodlit courts (3 acrylic, 3 macadam and 3 artificial grass) for play throughout the year; all overlooked by a spacious and comfortable clubhouse. A number of regular club sessions are held for members, and the club has mens, ladies and mixed teams in the Suffolk league, with professional coaching available for individuals and groups. Social events are also held throughout the year including music nights & quizzes.
The Club welcomes new members. Adults can join the Club at the half price reduced rate of £120 for the first year. The student & junior annual rate is just £65.
